New Hampshire Education Freedom Account (EFA) Program

Choose a Better Path for Your Child’s Education

At American Virtual Academy, we believe families should have the freedom to choose an education that reflects their values. New Hampshire’s Education Freedom Account (EFA) program helps make this possible by providing eligible families with public funds they can use for private or online education, tutoring, curriculum, and more. This is an opportunity to take control of your child’s learning—and invest in their future.

What Is New Hampshire’s EFA Program?

The NH EFA program gives families state-funded Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) that can be used for a wide range of educational expenses. Instead of being limited to public or charter schools, parents can choose the learning environment that works best for their child. That includes enrolling in a private online school like American Virtual Academy.

New Hampshire’s EFA program is designed to support students from low- and middle-income households and is open to a growing number of families across the state.

Who Is Eligible?

To qualify for the NH EFA program, your child must:

  • Be a New Hampshire resident
  • Be eligible to enroll in a public K–12 school
  • Have a household income at or below 350% of the Federal Poverty Level
(Approximately $109,200 for a family of four in 2024–2025)

Note: Once approved, there is no income limit in future years as long as eligibility is maintained. Prior public-school enrollment is not required.

How Much Can Families Receive?

Families typically receive about $5,100 per student per year. Funding is based on the state’s Adequate Education Grant and any applicable differentiated aid.

Note: Funds are distributed quarterly and can be used throughout the school year.

What Can ESA Funds Be Used For?

EFA funds can cover a variety of education-related expenses, including:

  • Private school or online tuition
  • Curriculum and textbooks
  • Tutoring and educational therapies
  • Technology, devices, and internet access
  • Testing fees and academic assessments
  • Educational field trips, transportation, and uniforms
  • Postsecondary education courses and supplies

Note: All expenses must meet the NH EFA program guidelines.
