In 2001, American Virtual Academy opened its doors as Primavera Online High School with the goal of providing Arizona youth... with a flexible, viable alternative to traditional high school. The school's mission was to use technology to engage and motivate students with interactive curriculum.
Over the years, American Virtual Academy has evolved from one of the largest Arizona high schools to the premier national online program for students, incorporating a rigorous curriculum and highly structured environment into an interactive education that prepares them for real world situations. Thousands of students have achieved success with American Virtual Academy, all over the country and from many different walks of life.
Throughout it all, our goal has remained the same: to personalize the education of every student. Our certified, highly qualified teachers follow this philosophy by motivating students through phone calls, email, discussions and announcements. They recognize each and every student's potential to learn and achieve academically. Our unique curriculum utilizes a variety of nationally-renowned content providers to enrich each student's education and encompass all learning styles. We constantly strive to equip each student with the tools necessary to succeed at any level beyond their high school diploma. We will continue to do so for years to come.
Accreditation is the education industry's version of quality control. Accrediting agencies set standards, evaluate and investigate each applying institution, and require that each organization be held accountable to the community and education professionals. American Virtual Academy is not currently accredited; however, is in the process of seeking "Candidacy" status through the North Central Association (NCA), the Commission on International Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Obtaining accreditation through multiple agencies makes it easier for students to transfer credits between schools and ensures that the education you receive from American Virtual Academy meets or exceeds the same standards applied to other schools in the country.
American Virtual Academy courses are available for both individual and group learning. All courses are available entirely over the internet and are accessible any time of day, from anywhere in the world.
Some parents and students prefer a more individualized distance learning atmosphere. For these students, our Individual Learning Courses are the perfect solution. Each course is accessible exclusively online, and students have one year to finish each course. American Virtual Academy's certified, highly qualified instructors are available for additional support by phone or email with a response time of 72 hours. All courses include a multimedia learning environment, online textbook readings, projects, quizzes and tests. Students should complete 10-12 half-credit courses per year, depending on their diploma type.
For a more interactive and structured environment, Group Learning Courses provide students the ability to interface with other students in the same class through threaded discussion boards. Each course is 6 weeks long, and students should expect to spend 2 hours per day, 5 days per week for each course. Full-time students are enrolled in 2 classes per six week block. Part-time students may take one or two classes per six week block, depending on their schedule. GLC students can expect frequent communication with their certified, highly qualified instructors. All courses include a multimedia learning environment, online textbook readings, projects, quizzes, discussions and tests. Full-time students should complete 10-12 half-credit courses per year, depending on their diploma type.
