For the most part, yes. However, American Virtual Academy offers a Physical Education course that requires activity away from the computer, and we also offer several elective courses that may have offline requirements.
No. Most American Virtual Academy students enjoy the flexibility of working at home. However, family needs may dictate where students take their classes. Since AVA courses are accessible entirely over the internet, students can take their classes anywhere in the world.
Not necessarily. American Virtual Academy courses are designed so each student can complete his/her classes independently. Individual Learning Courses may require more parent support, while Group Learning Courses may require less since there is a higher level of teacher communication. However, we strongly encourage all parents to take an active role in their child's education. Research has shown that students are more successful when they receive more parent participation in their education.
You will have one year to complete each Individual Learning Course; however, the time it takes you to finish the class will depend on the amount of time you spend on it on a daily basis. Group Learning Courses last six weeks. You should expect to spend 2 hours per day, 5 days per week on each GLC.
Individual Learning Courses have no set start date. You have one year from the time of enrollment to complete these classes. Group Learning Courses start every 2-3 weeks. Once your enrollment process is complete, we will register you in the next available block for your desired Group Learning Course.
We recommend no more than 5 at a time if you are enrolled entirely in Individual Learning Courses and no more than 2 at a time if you are enrolled entirely in Group Learning Courses. If you are enrolled in both Individual and Group Learning Courses, you will determine what works best for you.
American Virtual Academy courses are entirely over the internet. We have partnered with leading content providers to integrate any required textbook readings into the course itself.

Absolutely. American Virtual Academy students are encouraged to work at a pace that is comfortable for them. If you would like to finish your classes or graduate early, we can work with you to accommodate that goal.

American Virtual Academy instructors are available Monday-Friday during specific hours, which are outlined in each course's announcements. If students require additional support, our instructors will make themselves available for assistance. Our goal is to help each student succeed and we will provide extra support as needed.
If you are enrolled in Individual Learning Courses, you have one year to complete them. If your leave of absence will prevent you from completing your ILC within the one year timeframe, please contact your instructor to discuss your options. If you are enrolled in Group Learning Courses, you may work ahead or catch up to complete by the class end date. GLC end dates are approximately 6 weeks after the class has started. If you will not be able to complete your GLC due to medical or personal reasons, please contact your instructor to move you to a class that starts at a later date.
Parents can access their son/daughter's grades by logging on to his/her courses using the same username and password. Each course contains a grade book to show student activity and attendance, grades, and upcoming projects. Parents are also welcome to contact the instructor via email or phone to request a progress report on their student.
